Coachella Valley 2018 holiday events

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif.- - The holidays are here and spots across the Coachella Valley and beyond are getting ready to illuminate their very own Christmas displays. Whether you live in Palm Springs, La Quinta, Indio, Desert Hot Springs, Twentynine Palms, or Rancho Mirage, you'll have plenty of opportunities to catch a tree lighting or holiday event in the coming weeks. 

Tree Lightings 

Palm Springs

  • Friday, November 30 - 5:15 PM
  • 555 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92262
  • "Join the Mayor, City Council and Santa Claus of course, for the City of Palm Springs Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, featuring holiday caroling and FREE hot cocoa and cookies in Frances Stevens Park, corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Alejo Road," reads the city's event description. "The lighting of the City's "green" tree, featuring hundreds of energy-efficient LED lights, will take place at 5:15 p.m. sharp!


Rancho Mirage

  • Friday, November 30 - 6 PM
  • The Amphitheater at the River - 71800 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270
  • 50 tuba players will be playing Christmas Music in the Amphitheater, with Lucky Callendar of Babe's BBQ counting down to the tree lighting


  • Saturday, December 1, 2018 - 4:30-- 7:00 PM
  • Indio City Hall, 100 Civic Center Mall, Indio, CA, 92201
  • "The City of Indio plans to kick off the holiday season with a tree lighting ceremony," reads the event description on Indio's website. "This free event is open to the public and will include the tree lighting, music, and of course a visit from Santa Claus!" 


Palm Springs

  • December 2 - 5:30 PM
  • Top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway - Mountain Station
  • 1 Tram Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262
  • "HGTV’s “Desert Flippers” hosts, Eric and Lindsey Bennett, serve as this year’s celebrity tree lighters for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony," reads a Tramway news release. "The Tram’s Mountain Station kicking off with a holiday performance by the Palm Springs High School Madrigals & String Quartet. Then the Bennetts light the Tram’s landmark 45-foot tree comprised of 4,000 LED lights, which can be seen throughout the Coachella Valley." 

Indian Wells

  • December 2, 6:00 p.m.
  •  Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa, 44400 Indian Wells Lane, Indian Wells, CA 92210
  • "The resort’s annual tree-lighting ceremony and holiday kickoff will feature illumination of a giant holiday tree and live choral performances by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley / Heat Wave Show Band, plus a gingerbread house decorating contest, the hunt for a live “Elf on the Shelf” in Glo Lobby Bar, and complimentary screening of the film Polar Express in R Theater."

Twentynine Palms  

  • December 4 - 5:30 - 7:30 PM
    • Tree lighting at 6:15 p.m., Santa arrives at 6:30
  • Twentynine Palms City Hall -  6136 Adobe Rd, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277
  • "It will be an exciting full night of fun and surprises to kick off the annual Holiday Season in the City of Twentynine Palms! " reads the city's news release. "Santa Claus will be flying in directly from the North Pole on a helicopter to join the new and improved combined Twentynine Palms Light Parade and City Tree Lighting."


  • December 5 - 5:30 p.m.
  • Coachella City Hall, 1515 Sixth St., Coachella, CA
  • "No need to visit a galaxy far, far away to enjoy the holidays. Instead, you can enjoy a two-day galactic celebration in Coachella with a tree lighting party and parade," reads the city news release. "The City invites all residents to the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m., followed by entertainment, holiday train rides, and free food. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance to check on the good boys and girls of Coachella; photo opportunities will be available for the whole family."



La Quinta

  • Friday, December 7 - 6 p.m. - 8 PM
  •  Civic Center Campus, 78495 Calle Tampico, La Quinta, CA
  • "Kick off the holidays and join the City of La Quinta as they light up the City Christmas Tree! Enjoy the sounds of performers, music, and the jingle of bells as everyone is welcome to get into the holiday spirit," reads the city news release. "Jumper. Be sure to bring your camera for a special visit from Santa Claus who will be taking photos by the tree."

Desert Hot Springs 

  • December 8 - 5:45 PM
  • 65950 Pierson Boulevard, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92240
  • "For the first time ever, the Holiday Parade will take place in the evening, kicking off at 5:45 pm at the intersection of Palm Drive and Two Bunch Palms Trail," read a city news release. "The community will gather for the traditional tree-lighting spectacular and holiday celebration [in front of Desert Hot Springs City Hall]."

24th Annual Wreath Auction - Palm Springs

  • Dec 3, 2018 - 6-9 PM
  • EIGHT4NINE Restaurant & Lounge -  849 N Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262
  • "Help make this year the biggest ever!  Use your talents to create a wreath to be auctioned," reads the event news release. "You may drop wreaths off at EIGHT4NINE anytime during open hours for public display until the auction.Proceeds from the Wreath Auction will be divided equally between the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and The LGBT Community Center of the Desert. We have open seating in the lounge, but reservations are available in the Grand Corridor with a view of all the auction."

Holiday Open House & Sock Drive - Indio

  • Dec. 12 - 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. 
  • State Senator Jeff Stone's District Office 45-125 Smurr Street, Suite B, in Indio
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring new socks which will be donated to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission and Martha's Village and kitchen, but donations are not required. No appointment is needed to attend. Sock donations are also being accepted during regular office business hours from 9am-5pm.
  • "I look forward to this opportunity to spend time with the wonderful people of the Coachella Valley and encourage them to donate socks for those in need across the region," Senator Stone said in a statement.
