THERMAL, Calif. - Strong winds brought down 23 power poles in Thermal Thursday afternoon, causing a power outage that affected thousands of Imperial Irrigation District customers.

Residents told News Channel 3 the outage began at around 6 p.m. Robert Schettler, an IID spokesperson, confirmed the outage affected 2,430 people when it initially began but power has been returned to all but 15 customers.
