DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - Update - 11/13/18:

Desert Hot Springs have arrested a suspect. 

27-year-old Albert Marchain of Desert Hot Springs was arrested today by officers with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department along with the assistance of The Cathedral City Police Department, according to DHSPD.

Original Story - 11/12/18:

Police were on the scene of an active homicide investigation on the 66000 block of Hacienda Avenue in Desert Hot Springs Monday afternoon.

Law enforcement received the report of a deceased person in the back of an apartment building on that block at 1:30 p.m.

"We are working a death investigation I don’t believe we have categorized it as a homicide as of yet. But yes we are there investigating," said Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Dale Mondary. 

The apartment was cordoned off with crime tape, and officers were seen going in and out of the residence for the about an hour. 

"Once we got here and saw the condition of the body, it was obvious we were looking at a homicide at that time," said DHS Deputy Chief Jim Henson.

The Riverside County Coroner remained on scene for several hours investigating the cause of death, which wasn't expected to be released for the next few days.

This marks the second homicide in Desert Hot Spring this year. The first one occurred in February, 38-year-old Anthony Webb of Los Angeles is accused of shooting death of 49-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident Joseph Slaten.

This time last year, the city had reported seven murders. The number of homicides is down all across the valley. This homicide marks for the 15th of 2018 in the Coachella Valley, compared to 19 last year.
