INDIO, Calif. - One suspect is injured in an officer-involved shooting in Indio and was taken to the hospital on Friday night after a robbery attempt.

News Channel 3 has learned the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is the lead agency on the shooting investigation at the Best Western on Indio Boulevard.

It happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. According to Indio police, ATF and special agents from the Santa Ana field office came to Indio as they investigated a "robbery crew", and they intervened in a robbery attempt. During that attempt a suspect was shot. Their condition is unknown at this time. No officers were injured in the shooting.

There are a number of hotels in that area and guests at the Best Western were eventually allowed to return to their rooms after being kept outside by law enforcement.

ATF is continuing their investigation, with Indio PD assisting.

Indio Boulevard was closed between Monroe Street and Clinton Street for the investigation and reopened to traffic Saturday morning.
