Mountain Town reptile museum burns, over half of animals lost

14 of 32 animals saved, according to Cal Fire.

OAK GLEN, Calif.- - Over half of the animals housed at the Mountain Town reptile museum in Oak Glen were lost Thursday in a fire.

The blaze, which broke out around 11:45 a.m. Thursday morning, was put out in about an hour. One firefighter sustained minor burns and was transported to an area hospital. Yucaipa Police. San Bernardino County Cal Fire crews, Redlands Fire Department crews, and Riverside County fire crews responded to the scene. 

Emergency crews were able to rescue 14 of the 32 animals in the building, the owners of the museum told Cal Fire. 

As of 2:20 p.m., fire crews were still on scene mopping up and overhauling the damaged structure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
