Looking at the Cranston Fire map

News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2's Alex Cheney takes a look at the map of the Cranston Fire by the San Bernardino National Forest Friday morning.

The Cranston Fire is burning areas near Mountain Center and Idyllwild. As of 4 p.m. Friday, the blaze has burned 11,500-acres with 3 percent containment. 6,000 people have evacuated and nearly 5,000 structures are threatened.

Cranston Fire Updates

Firefighters mark the start of the fire as division A and then list other important points alphabetically clockwise around the fire. The map shows the fire went up from Division A to the Idyllwild School for Performing Arts, marked as Division B. Firefighters are currently attempting to divert the fire away from that school.

The fire continued off the way from Idyllwild but not too much they tried to keep it away from there. The fire overnight made a turn north just south of Tahquitz Peak before eventually moving east in the national forest land.

As for the where the Coachella Valley on the map, the Palm Springs Tram is still much north east of the fire. Despite that, officials are exercising caution, shutting down the tram even though the fire containment line is still far enough away from the Tram.

As the fire began to head south through much of the forest area, it threatens an area where there are a lot of mountain towns and communities. Firefighters are focusing on keeping the fire away from that area.

Lake Hemet is also a very important area, firefighters are trying to bring the fire and meet back up with division A. An area near Lake Hemet is where the mountain fire burned about five years ago. Firefighters are trying to bring it in line with that area to try to stop those flames.

Brandon McGlover, the man accused of starting the Cranston Fire, pleaded not guilty today at an arraignment in Murrieta. He was charged with 15 felony counts and potentially faces life in prison.
