Authorities identify man & woman killed in Cathedral City shooting

Attack also left an officer injured

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.- - The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has officially identified the man and woman killed in shooting Sunday afternoon in Cathedral City that left an officer injured.

Police say Roberto Tapia, 28, of La Quinta shot and killed Paola Minero, 23, of Cathedral City near Date Palm Drive and McCallum Way. Authorities say Tapia then started firing at police, striking an officer's vehicle. The officer returned fire, striking Tapia, who died in the hospital.

Investigators are still working to determine a cause or motive. Minero's mother told News Channel 3 that Tapia is the father of Minero's three children. She said the two had been in a relationship but were separated at the time of the shooting.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department asks that anyone with information regarding the incident can contact Central Homicide Investigator Button at (951) 955-2777.
