DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - The August Coachella Valley Spotlight recipient is Smooth Transition, Inc.!
Smooth Transition, Inc. serves between 300 and 1,000 valley residents each year, providing those who are considered at-risk and underprivileged with certification courses focused on life skills development, vocational training and mentorship. Programs offered aim to stop students from re-entering the foster and judicial system, as well as ending the cycle of poverty and homelessness for those in need. Per official poverty statistics, 16.4% of Californians lacked enough resources, about $24,000 per year for a family of four, to meet basic needs in 2014. Smooth Transition, Inc. works in the community to change that.
The $25,000 Coachella Valley Spotlight grant, provided by the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, will provide tuition assistance for students and cover programming costs. Funds are expected to sponsor classes and pay for instructors.
Smooth Transition, Inc. is located in Desert Hot Springs. If you would like more information, you can visit their website or call (760) 636-6825.
