Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has his sights set on becoming president at Youngstown State University.

Youngstown State confirmed that the 61-year-old Tressel and current executive vice president for student success at the University of Akron had applied late last week.

Tressel also has applied for the presidency at the University of Akron.

Tressel released a statement saying he was "respectful of the presidential search process under way" at both schools.

Tressel coached at Youngstown State for 15 seasons, winning four Division 1-AA football titles. He coached at Ohio State from 2001-2010 and led the Buckeyes to the national championship in 2002.

Tressel resigned as Ohio State's head coach in 2011 amid an NCAA probe.
