The Ottawa Senators signed left winger Clarke MacArthur to a five-year, $23.25 million contract extension on Tuesday before he became a free agent next summer.

MacArthur will make $3.25 million this season, $4.5 million each of the following two seasons and $4.75 million the next three years. The salary cap hit will be $4.65 million for the Senators.

The 29-year-old MacArthur joined the Senators before last season after signing a two-year contract as a free agent. He finished 2013-14 with a career-best 24 goals (second on the team behind Kyle Turris' 26) and 55 points.

In his eight-year NHL career, MacArthur has 117 goals and 151 assists in 482 games with the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Senators.
