The Oakland Raiders claimed kicker Giorgio Tavecchio off waivers from the Detroit Lions on Tuesday.

Tavecchio spent time in training camp with the San Francisco 49ers (2012), Green Bay Packers (2013), and the Detroit Lions, who recently waived him. He played in 46 games for at the University of California and finished his career with 256 points, ranking fifth on the school's all-time scoring list .

To make room on the roster, the Raiders waived kicker Kevin Goessling, who the team signed last Wednesday. Goessling, who spent time with the Raiders earlier this month in training camp, was a three-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection at Fresno State.
