Cardinals 6, Reds 5 (10 innings)

ST. LOUIS -- Jhonny Peralta started Monday night's game with one hit in 31 at-bats against Cincinnati. He quadrupled that total with three hits, the last one an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th that gave St. Louis the win at Busch Stadium.

Rookie Nick Greenwood (2-1), St. Louis' sixth pitcher, worked a 1-2-3 10th on five pitches to garner the win.

It was the fifth win in six games for the Cardinals, who pulled within 2 1/2 games of idle Milwaukee in the National League Central. They also extended their lead for the NL's top wild-card spot over idle San Francisco to 1 1/2 games.

For the Reds, it was their eighth loss in 10 games, and dropped them five games behind the Giants for wild card No. 2.
