Creighton forward Doug McDermott was among the players on the Wooden Award midseason top 25 list released Wednesday.
Others joining the 6-foot-8 senior included Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart, Arizona's Nick Johnson, Duke's Jabari Parker, Florida's Casey Prather and Syracuse's Tyler Ennis.
McDermott is averaging 24.8 points and 7.1 rebounds this season for Creighton (16-3).
One notable omission was Kansas freshman center Joel Embiid, whose play has gained national attention in recent weeks. Some analysts project the Cameroon native as the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
The midseason list did include Iowa State's DeAndre Kane, Michigan State's Adreian Payne and Keith Appling, Wichita State's Cleanthony Early and Kentucky's Julius Randle.
The 15 finalists will be named March 8. Players who are not on the midseason list can still be added as a finalist.
Last year, Indiana's Victor Oladipo was not named at midseason but added as a finalist and was nosed out for the award by Michigan point guard Trey Burke.
Players from 10 conferences were represented on the midseason list.
