Toronto All-Star first baseman Edwin Encarnacion was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday after suffering a strained quadriceps muscle on Saturday. The Blue Jays recalled Nolan Reimold from Triple-A Syracuse to take Encarnacion's spot on the roster. Toronto claimed Reimold off waivers on Sunday from the Baltimore Orioles.
Encarnacion is currently third in the American League in home runs (26) and second in RBIs (70). He left Saturday's game after feeling a pop in his right leg in the first inning.
He will miss the All-Star Game, with Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager named in his place Monday. Seager, 26, will make his first All-Star appearance and is batting .274 with 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 21 doubles and a .483 slugging percentage.
Also on Monday, the Oakland A's claimed Blue Jays outfielder Kenny Wilson on waivers.
Reimold has been with Orioles for parts of the past five seasons. He compiled a .252 average and 41 homers and 126 RBIs during that time.
