Russia's Adelina Sotnikova, the 17-year-old who was not seen as a contender to medal at Sochi, beat out the favorite Yuna Kim of South Korea for the gold medal in women's singles figure skating in a decision that is now mired in controversy. Chinese gymnasts. Many questioned whether the members of the female Chinese gymnastics team were actually younger than they the required age of 16 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the end, the International Olympic Committee concluded that everything was legal.
