COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. - Veterans and active services members are being honored throughout the Coachella Valley with a number of Veterans day events:
Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade
The 21st annual Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3:30 p.m. in downtown Palm Springs. The parade begins at Ramon Road & Palm Canyon Drive and heads northbound Palm Canyon Drive to Alejo Road.
The parade is largest in Southern California and will include a post-parade patriotic concert and a firework show at the intersection of Amado Road and Palm Canyon Drive.
Palm Desert Civic Center Park Veterans Event
Palm Desert will honor the sacrifices of those who have served in the United States’ military and recognize the dedication of those who continue to serve our nation with a free Veterans Day celebration at Civic Center Park on Saturday, Nov.11, at 11 a.m.
The event will feature a keynote speech from Colonel Kyle Ellison, Regimental Commander of the 7th Marines, the United States Marine Corps regiment that has been adopted by the City of Palm Desert. The ceremony will also include a patriotic concert performed by the Heatwave Boys and Girls Club Jazz Band.
La Quinta Veterans Day Ceremony
The City of La Quinta will hold their annual Veterans Day ceremony at City Hall Courtyard on Nov.11 at 9 a.m. The ceremony will include music by the La Quinta High School Wind Symphony, a flag created by Coachella Valley students representing the Ophelia Project. Mayor Linda Evans, members of City Council and special guest speaker Assemblyman Chad Mayes will present the program.
A flyover jet from the Palm Springs Air Museum will take place at 9:02 a.m.
Rancho Mirage Veterans Day Ceremony
The City of Rancho Mirage event is honoring veterans on Saturday Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at Rancho Mirage Community Park.
The event will include a 29 Palms Marine Corps Color Guard presentation of colors, speakers from military branches and a flyover from the Palm Springs Air Museum.
City Council members will unveil a Veteran Recognition Wall and Memorial flame monument.
Indio Veterans Day Celebration
The General Patton Memorial Museum will hold its 29th Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
This year's General Pattown Award will honor Robert Izumi. He first enlisted in the Army in 1943 and played a vital role in the Army, Airforce and Marines. Izumi dedicated 60 years in the Armed Forces and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Harold Matzner will be presented with The Founders Award for his charitable contributions to the museum, such as the Matzner Tank Pavilion. The ceremony will celebrate the Pavilions grand opening.
Special guests include Supervisor Manuel Perez, Indio Mayor Glenn Miller, CHP Captain Laura Quattlebaum, Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff and Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon.
Desert Hot Springs Veterans Day Ceremony
Desert Hot Springs Veterans Day ceremony will be held at Veterans Park on Saturday, Nov.11 at 9 a.m.
Desert Hot Springs resident Marge Snell, the wife of WWII Veteran Francis Russ Snell, will be the keynote speaker.
The Marine Corps Junior ROTC will start the ceremony with the presentation of the colors,
followed by the National Anthem, sung by Ruben Alvarez. Scouts Troop 1606 will then
lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Desert Hot Springs High School Choir
will perform America the Beautiful.
