U.S. citizen arrested after $134K worth of meth found in car

BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. - U.S. citizen arrested after border patrol agents find $134K worth of methamphetamine at the Highway 86 checkpoint.

The bust happened on Monday morning, less than two days after agents seized 106 pounds of methamphetamine on Saturday morning.

At around 3:10 am, a 31-year-old U.S. citizen driving a gray 2006 Mercury Sable approached the checkpoint. The Border Patrol canine team alerted agents to the driver's side of the vehicle.

After further inspection, agents found 27 packets stuffed inside the vehicle’s rocker panels and under the back seat. Agents tested the contents of the packages and indicated a positive for characteristics of methamphetamine.

The total weight of the methamphetamine was 40.90 pounds with an estimated street value of $134,970. 

The man, the vehicle and, the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.  

In fiscal year 2018, El Centro Sector has seized more than 418.78 pounds of methamphetamine.
