Two men suspected of stealing a vehicle and trying to steal another from someone at gunpoint in Palm Desert were behind bars today, authorities said.
Samuel Thomas Bradford, 33, of Thousand Palms, and Ryan Lee Rusokoff, 36, of Palm Desert, were arrested about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 77000 block of Country Club Drive in Palm Desert, sheriff's Lt. David Teets said.
Roughly two hours earlier, someone reported suspicious people and a vehicle near Robin Road and Warner Trail.
Law enforcement officers, including some in a California Highway Patrol airplane, started searching the area, spotted the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop, according to Teets.
A chase ensued, he said, and the vehicle turned out to have been reported stolen Tuesday.
Bradford and Ruskokoff abandoned the vehicle in the 77000 block of Country Club and ran into an apartment complex, where authorities said they tried to take a vehicle from someone at gunpoint until stopped by a CHP officer.
Law enforcement officers surrounded the area and arrested Bradford and Rusokoff during a search, Teets said. Both were booked in Indio and being held in lieu of $60,000 bail each, jail records show.
