DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. -

Desert Hot Springs police gave chase to a driver who failed to yield just before noon on Wednesday.

KESQ & CBS Local 2 were at the scene and spoke to officers. Authorities said the suspect ran from a Toyota sedan after the vehicle became stuck in the sand near Atlantic Avenue and Maple Road.

The suspect hid in the desert but was later captured by police.

Officers called for a Ford F150 to tow the suspect's vehicle out of the sand, but the pickup truck ended up getting stuck as well. Officers then called for a bigger truck, this time a Ford F250, to tow the suspect's car and the original tow truck from the sand.

We're waiting to hear back from police as to why the suspect ran from the scene after failing to yield.
