INDIO, Calif. -

Police investigated a suspicious envelope sent to a Time Warner Cable office in Indio today, sealing off the building and closing the nearest road.

Police were sent to Time Warner at 81-557 Dr. Carreon Blvd. about 12:15 p.m., Indio police  spokesman Ben Guitron said.

``When officers arrived at the business ... they were told by Time Warner employees an envelope had been received that looked suspicious and they felt it wasn't safe to handle,'' Guitron said. ``The officers evaluated the envelope and felt it was necessary to secure the business and block off the immediate area.''

Firefighters and a hazardous material team were called to the scene, and Dr. Carreon was closed to vehicles and pedestrians between Highway 111 and Cheyenne Road.

At 4:00, Cal Fire deemed the envelope non hazardous. It was given to the Indio Police Department. Indio Police now investigate who sent it and why.

No word on any connection to the current TWC contract dispute. When asked about it, TWC released this statement: We are working with local law enforcement on the investigation. Due to that investigation, questions should be referred to local police and fire department.
