Car vs. school bus in Desert Hot Springs

No students on bus at time of collision

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - A car and a school bus collided this morning near Desert Springs Middle School.

Deputy Chief Jim Henson of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department says no students were on the bus at 7:20 a.m. along the 66700 block of Two Bunch Palms Trail.

Pictures from viewers showed a small white sedan that appeared to have run into the side of the school bus.

Henson said the car's driver was transported to a local hospital. He had no word on their condition.

Joan Boiko, Communications Manager at Palm Springs Unified School District said the bus had just dropped students off at the back of the school.

Boiko said the bus driver was leaving the parking lot and cited witnesses who claimed the car's driver was weaving in and out of traffic in the area at a high speed and perhaps did not see the bus pulling out.

The bus driver was not hurt, according to Boiko.
