Arraignment delayed for suspect in mother-son burn case

It has been delayed until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

INDIO, Calif.- - A man accused of murder his mother in the loading dock area of the Mathis Brothers in Indio will not appear in court until Tuesday morning. Israel Guardado-Ramirez, who allegedly set his mother ablaze at her place of work on January 26, was supposed to be arraigned this morning, but the appearance has been delayed due to a  paperwork issue from the prosecution.

The 'paperwork issue' in question relates to a transportation order which was not filed. Without the order, Guardado-Ramirez was not allowed to be transported from the jail to the courthouse.

The hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday in courtroom 3N of Larson Justice Center in Indio. He is currently being held on $1 million bail.

His mother, 61-year-old Francisca Ramirez of North Shore, passed away on February 25 after several weeks of intensive care in the hospital.

A few days after Ramirez' passing, John Hall of the Riverside County District Attorney's office released a statement confirming that the prosecution would be amending their complaint against Israel Guardado-Ramirez. He would face a murder charge instead of an attempted murder charge.
