PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - An armed suspect who barricaded himself inside a Palm Springs residence is in custody following an hours-long standoff.
The standoff started just before 4:20 pm and ended at around 10:30 pm when police deployed gas and sent a K-9 inside the residence, according to police.
Sgt. William Hutchinson told KESQ / CBS Local 2's Joe Galli at the scene that they got a call at the residence from a man saying his roommate had threatened to kill him.
When police arrived the suspect began acting erratically, grabbed a knife, and barricaded himself inside the residence, Hutchinson said.
Police later identified the suspect as 32-year-old Larry Hayslett. Sgt. Hutchinson said Hayslett had a misdemeanor warrant for a domestic violence charge.
Streets on the 900 block of Avenida Evelita were blocked off due to the incident.
Neighbors were evacuated and nearby residents were asked to stay indoors during the standoff. People weren't allowed to return to their homes until approximately 11:15 pm.
Hayslett, being held on $20,000 bail, is expected to make his initial court appearance Tuesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
