BLYTHE, Calif. -

A robbery suspect was hospitalized Monday after being shot by two police officers in Blythe, authorities said.

Darringer Gonzales, 21, of Blythe, was transported to a hospital in Palm Springs after the shooting, around 2:50 p.m. Monday, said Blythe police Cpl. Heriberto Cavezos.

Riverside sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero said the suspect was armed with a rifle when he held up a gas station in the 700 block of East Hobson Way in Blythe.

Cavezos said four officers arrived at the scene.

Buompensiero said the suspect was found in an alley near the business, which was where the officer-involved shooting occurred.

The shooting is being investigated by the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit, he said.

No officers were injured in the confrontation, Buompensiero said.

The suspect's condition was not immediately reported.
