RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - A Rancho Mirage man who admitted under-reporting his income while working as a CPA in Kansas is facing a maximum of three years in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Monday.
Robert Purinton, 69, formerly of Overland Park, Kansas, pleaded guilty last week to one count of making a false statement on his 2009 tax return. Federal prosecutors say he under-reported his income by about $202,000 while working with an accounting firm in Kansas.
As a result of his plea, he agreed to make restitution of $71,543 for additional taxes due in 2009 and $34,512 due for 2010, though he did not plead guilty to any criminal activity in that year.
A sentencing date will be set after Purinton's pre-sentence report is completed. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000.
