RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Rancho Mirage City Council candidate Michael Harrington files campaign complaint against incumbent Dana Hobart.
The complaint was filed with the city clerk's office. It alleges that Hobart is spreading false information that Harrington is a CV Link supporter.
Harrington said that Hobart violated the code of fair campaign practices by spreading the false rumors in a mass email to voters earlier this week.
In the email, Hobart suggests that Harrington and other candidates, Kate Spates and Bob Mueller, are all CV Link supporters attempting to take over the council seats in order to reintroduce the topic to city voters.
He also claims that former Goldenvoice executive, Skip Paige, who is dating Spates, has vocally supported the CV Link in the past and is puppeteering the CV Link-supporting candidates.
Steven Quintanilla, City Attorney for Rancho Mirage, told KESQ / CBS Local 2 that the city has not engaged in any wrongdoing and this is a demand letter, rather than a lawsuit against the City of Rancho Mirage.
Full statement below:
This is best described as a demand letter from candidate Michael Harrington, it is not a lawsuit against the City if Rancho Mirage. Nowhere in the letter is the City alleged to have engaged in any wrongdoing, or that the City is in any way responsible for the conduct Mr. Harrington is complaining about. Therefore, I am not sure why the letter has been directed to the City Clerk of the City of Rancho Mirage.
