The Palm Springs Police Officers Association will hold its first fundraiser Saturday to benefit a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Proceeds from the "New Beginnings Gala" will help Shelter from the Storm, the primary shelter for women and children in Riverside County. The festivities will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The fundraiser is open to the public, and tickets cost $250, spokeswoman Andrea Carter said today. The convention center is at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros.

Victoria Cameron, a superior court judge in Indio, and Lynn Moriarty, who retired last year as the shelter's executive director, will be honored at the gala.

People with questions about Saturday's fundraiser should call Shelter from the Storm at (760) 674-0400, Carter said.
