RIVERSIDE, Calif. -

Saturday ,people dropped off expired or unused prescription drugs during the countywide Prescription Drug Take Back program.

The annual event took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and allowed residents to drop off their unwanted prescription drugs at nine sheriff's stations throughout Riverside County.

Sheriff's authorities partnered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for the nationwide effort to give people the chance to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

The Sheriff's Department says Riverside County residents last year disposed of 2,124 pounds of outdated drugs during the "Take Back" program.

The service is free and people dropping off their expired prescription drugs can remain anonymous.

Information on drop-off locations is available by calling (951) 955-2400.
