Newt Gingrich will step up his support of Mitt Romney next week when he campaigns on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's behalf at the Georgia state GOP convention, Gingrich's spokesman said Friday.
Gingrich, who represented Georgia in the U.S. House, will stump for Romney next Friday, spokesman R.C. Hammond told CNN. The convention will be held on Friday and Saturday in Columbus, Georgia.
Gingrich ended his White House bid just over a week ago, and said in an interview on CNN's "Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer" that his speech announcing his departure from the race was also his official endorsement of Romney.
Georgia voted in March and was one of the two states whose presidential contests Gingrich won.
