In 2008, Republican presidential nominee John McCain was called “Phoenix,” a name he let the Secret Service choose for him. His wife, Cindy, went by “Parasol.” The McCain children also got code names: Meghan McCain was “Peter Sellers,” John Sidney McCain IV was “Popeye” and Bridget McCain was “Pebbles.”
