Secret Service code names through history

Since the Secret Service now scrambles its radio communications, there’s no longer much of a security reason for giving presidents and candidates code names, but they are still used out of tradition. Here are some of the not-so-secret code names White House seekers and those close to them have received over the years.

President Jimmy Carter was called “Deacon.” He’s a committed Baptist and long-time Sunday school teacher. His wife, Rosalynn, was “Dancer.”
