Secret Service code names through history

Since the Secret Service now scrambles its radio communications, there’s no longer much of a security reason for giving presidents and candidates code names, but they are still used out of tradition. Here are some of the not-so-secret code names White House seekers and those close to them have received over the years.

President John F. Kennedy was known as “Lancer.” His wife, Jacqueline Kennedy, was “Lace,” and children Caroline and John Jr. were “Lyric” and “Lark.”
