Secret Service code names through history

Since the Secret Service now scrambles its radio communications, there’s no longer much of a security reason for giving presidents and candidates code names, but they are still used out of tradition. Here are some of the not-so-secret code names White House seekers and those close to them have received over the years.

Al Gore has had two code names: “Sundance” while he ran for president and “Sawhorse” when he served as vice president. His wife, Tipper, went by “Skylark.”
