The Supreme Court is expected to issue rulings on two same-sex marriage cases this month, including one dealing with California's Proposition 8, which makes same-sex marriage unconstitutional in the state. Take a look at the path same-sex marriage has taken in states across the country.
A federal court overturned California's voter-approved gay marriage ban, known as Proposition 8, in 2010, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed it was unconstitutional in 2012. The Supreme Court is currently weighing an appeal of that decision. Gay marriages are on hold until further notice.
