The Indio California Highway Patrol is putting extra officers to work this New Year's Eve.
Officials said they'll have four more officers on duty to patrol the streets in an effort to keep you safe during the holiday. Many people will be going out to drink Tuesday night, and police want to make sure you choose a sober driver if you plan on ringing in the New Year with alcohol.
Officers said they'll be out in force, aggressively enforcing all traffic laws.
They also remind people to stay off their cell phones while driving. They said they want everyone to have a fun New Year, but the fun also comes with the responsibility to keep yourself, and others safe on the road.
You can't discharge a firearm in celebration of the New Year. Residents who illegally discharge firearms will be arrested, booked into the County Jail, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Police said, in addition to the fines and jail time, your firearm will be confiscated and destroyed.
