When temperatures soar, valley hotels slash rates to attract summer travelers.
But Palm Springs vacation rentals offer not only a cheap stay, but many of the comforts of home.
"The big draw for vacation rentals is the ability to have your own private pool, your own kitchen," said Thomas Salinas, vice president of Oranj Palm Vacation Homes.
Salinas says for the last two summers, vacation rentals in Palm Springs have been booming.
"Vacation rentals are burgeoning because so many second homes are owned out here," he said.
With plenty of dormant homes over the scorching summer months, it's no surprise TripAdvisor ranked Palm Springs the number one bargain for vacation rentals.
For an average of $1250, a family of four can stay in a 2-bedroom rental for a week, pay for basic groceries, one dinner out and a one-day bike rental.
"We have one bedrooms that go for $70 or $80 a night over the summer," Salinas said. "And if you're talking about traveling in a group, a pair of couples or families, you're definitely going to see huge savings."
One thing you won't get at a vacation rental though, daily maid service, unless you pay extra. But Salinas says most people opt out for privacy.
"We try hard to make it a parody experience to staying at a hotel," he adds.
And creating a hotel out of your home could mean big bucks for those who plan to be out of town for weeks or months at a time.
"We have homeowners who are making six figures a year with just their dormant property," Salinas said.
