PALM DESERT, Calif. -

A 35-year-old probationer suspected of rear-ending a pickup truck in an alcohol-related injury crash in Palm Desert and then fleeing the scene was behind bars Tuesday.

Stewart Frost of Palm Desert was being held at the Riverside County Jail in Indio in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to sheriff's booking records.

He was driving a Ford Focus east on Highway 111 around 4:15 p.m. Monday when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Silverado stopped for a red light at Fred Waring Drive, said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Carroll.

Frost fled the scene and was later found in the area of several nearby restaurants, Carroll said.

Both Frost and the other driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and were treated at a hospital, he said.

Frost was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 and causing injury, and violating his probation, all felonies. He was due in court in Indio on Thursday, according to sheriff's records.
