1940: Singer-songwriter and actor Ricky Nelson, who started out on his family's TV show, "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," and became a teen idol, is born in Teaneck, New Jersey. Nelson is known for songs such as "Poor Little Fool," "Travelin' Man" and "Hello Mary Lou" and also starred in the 1959 western "Rio Bravo" opposite John Wayne and Dean Martin. He died in an airplane crash on Dec. 31, 1985.
