1999: American poet and composer Shel Silverstein is found dead at the age of 68 by two housekeepers in his Key West, Florida, home. Silverstein had suffered a heart attack and died sometime on either May 8 or 9. He is best known for books such as "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and "The Giving Tree" and for writing songs such as "A Boy Named Sue," "One's on the Way" and "The Cover of the Rolling Stone."
