1942: Hall of Fame college basketball coach Jim Calhoun, who guided the University of Connecticut to three NCAA championships (1999, 2004, 2011), is born in Braintree, Massachusetts. He coached UConn from 1986 until his retirement in 2012 and also coached at Northeastern University from 1972 to 1986. He finished his career with a coaching record of 873-380 and is one of only five coaches in NCAA Division I history to win three or more championships.
