1890: A tornado strikes Louisville, Ky., killing an estimated 74 to 120 people, injuring at least 200 more and destroying 766 buildings. The F4 tornado was part of an outbreak of more than 20 tornados in the region known as the Mid-Mississippi Valley Tornado Outbreak. The outbreak is still one of the most deadly tornado events in U.S. history.
