1916: Actor Sterling Hayden, best known for movies such as "Johnny Guitar," "The Asphalt Jungle," "The Killing," "Dr. Strangelove" and "The Long Goodbye," is born Sterling Relyea Walter in Upper Montclair, N.J. He died of prostate cancer at the age of 70 on May 23, 1986.
