1937: Actor and country singer Jerry Reed, whose best known songs include "Guitar Man," "When You're Hot, You're Hot," "East Bound and Down" and "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)," is born Jerry Reed Hubbard in Atlanta, Georgia. Reed also appeared in films such as "Gator," all three of the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies and "Stroker Ace." He died of complications from emphysema at age 71 on Sept. 1, 2008.
