1958: The movie musical "South Pacific," starring Rossano Brazzi, Mitzi Gaynor, John Kerr and Ray Walston, premieres in New York City. The movie, an adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical of the same name, was the top film at the box office in 1958 and earned three Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Sound. It is best known for songs such as "Some Enchanted Evening" and "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair."
