1974: New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is born in Pequannock Township, New Jersey. A five-time World Series champion, Jeter is the Yankees' all-time career leader in hits, games played, stolen bases and at bats. He played 20 seasons for the Yankees before retiring following the 2014 season.
