1984: English actor James Mason, known for movies such as "A Star Is Born," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," "Lolita," "North by Northwest," "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Julius Caesar," dies from cardiac arrest at age 75 in Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland. Mason, considered to be one of the greatest actors of the 20th century, earned Academy Award nominations for his roles in "A Star Is Born," "Georgy Girl" and "The Verdict."
