1938: Actress Natalie Wood, known for movies such as "Miracle on 34th Street," "Rebel Without a Cause," "Splendor in the Grass" and "West Side Story," is born under the birth name Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko in San Francisco, California. Wood earned three Academy Award nominations, all before the age of 25, for her roles in "Rebel Without a Cause," "Splendor in the Grass" and "Love with the Proper Stranger." She drowned at the age of 43 on Nov. 29, 1981, while on a weekend boating trip near Santa Catalina Island off the shore of California.
