1941: Dick Cheney, who was the 46th vice president of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush, is born in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cheney also served as President Gerald Ford's White House chief of staff before being elected to the U.S. House representing Wyoming in 1979. He was also secretary of defense under President George H.W. Bush from 1989 to 1993.
