1949: Gregg Popovich, who has won five NBA championships as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, is born in East Chicago, Indiana. Taking over as the Spurs head coach in 1996, he holds the record for most consecutive winning seasons in NBA history at 17. He is also a three-time NBA Coach of the Year, winning in 2003, 2012 and 2014.
