1999: Blues singer and pianist Charles Brown, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member whose hits included "Driftin' Blues," "Black Night," "Merry Christmas Baby" and "Please Come Home for Christmas," dies of congestive heart failure at the age of 76 in Oakland, Calif.
